An unexpectedly hard shot by Lewis Mayall in the 3rd minute of play forced Horsham's goalkeeper Brett Addison to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Graeme Rocastle's late challenge caught a Petersfield City's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Graeme Rocastle helped the player get up and apologised. Graeme Rocastle hit a great freekick 5 minutes into the match. Vincent Booker, 5 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Unfortunately, the ball was poorly hit and landed closer to the corner than to the goal. A collision led to Horsham getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Glyn Fielden hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Syd Haper in the 12th minute of play forced Petersfield City's goalkeeper Ray Blackburn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Syd Haper had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 13th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Dion Rooney hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Lewis Mayall sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 21st minute, Graeme Rocastle hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Louie Grays short, quick shot in the 23rdth minute got Brett Addison to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. 28 minutes into the match, Petersfield City's goal looked a bit too open when Syd Haper came free, but Ray Blackburn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rich Townson kicked well hit freekick during the 31st minute of the match. Petersfield City's Louie Gray got a good chance for a goal in the 34th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Edward Cousins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Petersfield City getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Bryan Fordham hit a great ball. After a rather tough play, Petersfield City's Vincent Booker got a free kick in the 39th minute. Horsham's Victor Chadwick couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 40th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Petersfield City. In the 42nd minute, Petersfield City's Bryan Fordham seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Bryan Fordham the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Petersfield City protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Bryan Fordham had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 44th minute there was a penalty for Horsham. Victor Chadwick stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ray Blackburn. 0-1. The Petersfield City players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Horsham were winning 0-1.

53 minutes into the match, Petersfield City's goal looked a bit too open when Edward Cousins came free, but Ray Blackburn reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Petersfield City's Ray Blackburn got control of the ball when Syd Haper tried to sneak it across the goal line. Syd Haper fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ray Blackburn having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Petersfield City's zone, Edward Cousins stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ray Blackburn came out of the goal and Edward Cousins tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ray Blackburn was a little too slow when Syd Haper got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 67th minute. The score was now 0-2. An unexpected shot in the 75th minute by Edward Cousins got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Syd Haper who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 77thth minute tested the skills of Ray Blackburn when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Stuart Kitchen hit a great freekick 79 minutes into the match. The supporters of Horsham booed when Petersfield City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 82 match minutes in a wonderful position. Louie Gray didn't get a good kick on the ball. Edward Cousins struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Ray Blackburn didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Horsham. The supporters of Petersfield City booed when Horsham was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gwyn Deaconsfield didn't get a good kick on the ball. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Horsham had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
