After a rather tough play, Scottish Red Scarves's Gary Heath got a free kick in the 5th minute. 6 minutes into the match, Scottish Red Scarves's goalkeeper Jeff Sutcliffe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Bobby Rogers. In the 11th minute Giles Darko shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Sol Mayo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 15th minute, Scottish Red Scarves's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Bobby Rogers fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. When Giles Darko came up free with the goalie in the 19th minute, the Scottish Red Scarves fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Giles Darko couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bobby Rogers got free with Jeff Sutcliffe in the 20th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to KS Sheffield getting a freekick after 22 minutes play. Rupert Pollard hit a great ball. Duncan Laurie received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 25th minute. Sol Mayo tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Bobby Rogers sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Trey Fitter's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Jeff Sutcliffe read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. Alec Scargill fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 32nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jeff Sutcliffe having to interfere. Bobby Rogers who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 34thth minute tested the skills of Jeff Sutcliffe when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Bobby Rogers received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Jeff Sutcliffe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Teddy Holstead during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Teddy Holstead hit a great freekick 44 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Scottish Red Scarves's zone, Bobby Rogers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jeff Sutcliffe came out of the goal and Bobby Rogers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Jeff Sutcliffe was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
