Penetrators's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ricky Craven was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Bob Nelthorpe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Ricky Craven in the 32nd minute of play. Kris Apsden received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Bob Nelthorpe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Orpington FC's Miles Ring got a good chance for a goal in the 35th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 37th minute of the match Blair Watkins sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Neil Rice skillfully saved the ball. Neil Rice showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fitz Furlong in the 39th minute of the match. Orpington FC's Bob Nelthorpe proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 41st minute of the match, managed to save Orpington FC from getting a goal against them. After having played for 44 minutes, Fitz Furlong managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Orpington FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Fitz Furlong was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Ricky Craven made a kick off. Bob Nelthorpe made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. With his leg Neil Rice managed to avoid a goal in the 69thth minute, when Orpington FC's Fitz Furlong fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Ricky Craven's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Bob Nelthorpe read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. After having played for 74 minutes, Ricky Craven managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Penetrators's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ricky Craven was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.
