The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

Blackfen's supporters crossed their fingers, but John-Paul Prendergast was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Blackfen's Reg Clough got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The audience was convinced that Reg Clough's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Andy Parrott was relentless in the 86th minute of the game. Philip Osborn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Blackfen's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
