The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After 3 played minutes The Rangers FC got a freekick which was hit by Duncan Nevin. Dennis Firth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Danny Milburn in the 7th minute of play. 16 minutes into the match, Great Addington's goal looked a bit too open when Connor Sills came free, but Phil Cheeseman reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Great Addington's Phil Cheeseman proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save Great Addington from getting a goal against them. A collision led to The Rangers FC getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Andre Farmer hit a great ball. In the 31st minute of the match Andre Farmer shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Phil Cheeseman showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 36 played minutes The Rangers FC got a freekick which was hit by Andre Farmer. The Rangers FC's Dennis Firth played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Danny Milburn in the 37th minute of play. Johnnie Ellis fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 38th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dennis Firth having to interfere. When Chris Carlisle fell near the penalty area in the 41st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored The Rangers FC's protests and gave Chris Carlisle a yellow card for diving instead. Chris Carlisle hit a great freekick 41 minutes into the match. When the match had gone on for 44 minutes, Gordon Pollard put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Dennis Firth. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Connor Sills was the one to do the kick off. Johnnie Ellis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 51st minute of the match, but Dennis Firth made a huge save. Phil Cheeseman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Connor Sills in the 52nd minute of the match. Phil Cheeseman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Piers Denham, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to The Rangers FC getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Lance Miller hit a great ball. In the 65th minute of the match, Johnnie Ellis got a very nice opportunity to score, but Dennis Firth was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Dennis Firth made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gordon Pollard in the 70th minute of play. In the 71st minute, Lance Miller left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The The Rangers FC fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-1. 77 minutes into the game, The Rangers FC's Connor Sills nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Phil Cheeseman made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Connor Sills in the 80th minute of play forced Great Addington's goalkeeper Phil Cheeseman to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Johnnie Ellis could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 86th minute of the match, but Dennis Firth made a huge save. After a defensive mix-up in The Rangers FC's zone, Danny Milburn stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dennis Firth came out of the goal and Danny Milburn tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brendon Holmes's late challenge caught a The Rangers FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Brendon Holmes helped the player get up and apologised. Phil Cheeseman went to the wrong direction when Bart Baldwin was taking care of the penalty kick which however missed the goal. Johnnie Ellis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 97th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Great Addington's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
