The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Paul Nelthorpe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 5th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 8 minutes into the match, Paul Nelthorpe dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Hayden Hanson, 1-0. David Drury received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Peter Doona tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Frankie Hulbert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Carlton Brimble charged in rather forcefully in the 15th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Carlton Brimble the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Fairfield getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Carlton Brimble hit a great ball. Tom Gamble fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Hayden Hanson having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frankie Hulbert in the 24th minute of play forced Harleston FC's goalkeeper Peter Doona to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. David Drury's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Peter Doona read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Hayden Hanson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tom Gamble in the 27th minute. The supporters of Fairfield booed when Harleston FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 29 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jay Hill didn't get a good kick on the ball. 32 minutes into the match, Fairfield's goal looked a bit too open when Paul Nelthorpe came free, but Hayden Hanson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some fancy dribbling in the 37th minute, Rufus Duxbury managed to get in a good position for a shot. Harleston FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Rufus Duxbury was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Hayden Hanson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Paul Nelthorpe's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Hayden Hanson read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 39th minute of play. Hayden Hanson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Paul Nelthorpe in the 45th minute of the match. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Paul Nelthorpe made the kick off in the second half. Hayden Hanson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paul Nelthorpe, who was totally free with the ball in the 53rd minute. When the match had gone on for 57 minutes, Frankie Hulbert put it in 1-1 from a short distance just to the right of Peter Doona. David Drury fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 61st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Doona having to interfere. Peter Doona was a little too slow when David Drury got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 68th minute. The score was now 1-2. In the 75th minute Tom Gamble shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Hayden Hanson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Harleston FC's Paul Nelthorpe got a good chance for a goal in the 76th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a little luck, Harleston FC's Peter Doona got control of the ball when Frankie Hulbert tried to sneak it across the goal line. Frankie Hulbert sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Peter Doona acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 89th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Carlton Brimble. The supporters of Fairfield booed when Harleston FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Martyn Prutton didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, David Drury managed to get in a good position for a shot. Fairfield's supporters rose to their feet, but David Drury was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Peter Doona breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling David Drury in the 97th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Peter Doona prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Fairfield walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
