The audience thought a goal was coming when Harvey Walters got free with Tod Carey in the 31st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Stockton-on-Tees's Tod Carey played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Calum Vaughan in the 33rd minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Stockton-on-Tees's zone, Harvey Walters stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tod Carey came out of the goal and Harvey Walters tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Calum Vaughan in the 38th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tod Carey saved Stockton-on-Tees from getting behind. Kristopher Cavanagh showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jermaine Young, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. Kristopher Cavanagh took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matthew Boston, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 47 minutes, Jermaine Young managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Stockton-on-Tees's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jermaine Young was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

A collision led to Stockton-on-Tees getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Robert Theakston hit a great ball. Stockton-on-Tees's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Leeds County FootballClub the free kick.
