Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Sol Stockley got the match started through his kick off. 3 minutes into the match, Maine Road FC's goalkeeper Pedro Mansfield had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Simon Kear. Pedro Mansfield made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alastair West in the 4th minute of play. In the 6th minute of the match Crowthorne got a corner. Maine Road FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Basil Deeney ran over to the corner to take the kick. Darren Craven succeeded in the game's 8th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. After 10 played minutes Crowthorne got a freekick which was hit by Simon Kear. 12 minutes into the match, Maine Road FC's goal looked a bit too open when Alastair West came free, but Pedro Mansfield reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. A hard shot 14 in the game by Darren Craven from a close distance when the talented Pedro Mansfield managed to make a qualified save. Maine Road FC's players were relieved. Vance Thornton's late challenge caught a Crowthorne's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vance Thornton helped the player get up and apologised. After 14 played minutes Maine Road FC got a freekick which was hit by Vance Thornton. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Alastair West in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Pedro Mansfield prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jude Reddington fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 19th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dale Furlong having to interfere. In the 20th minute, Tommy Clegg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 25 minutes into the match, Maine Road FC's goal looked a bit too open when Alastair West came free, but Pedro Mansfield reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Sol Stockley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alastair West sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 37th minute, Laurence Legg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 38th minute, Darren Craven fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. With a little luck, Maine Road FC's Pedro Mansfield got control of the ball when Darren Craven tried to sneak it across the goal line. Pedro Mansfield showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alastair West, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. Pedro Mansfield took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alastair West, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Laurence Legg during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Maine Road FC's Laurence Legg got a free kick in the 45th minute. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Alastair West to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute Darren Craven shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Mansfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 55 minutes into the match, Crowthorne's Alastair West sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Pedro Mansfield narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alastair West in the 56th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Pedro Mansfield saved Maine Road FC from getting behind. Pedro Mansfield made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Darren Craven in the 57th minute of play. In the 59th match minute, Crowthorne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mike Beard to maneuver through the defense. If Alastair West had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After a defensive mix-up in Maine Road FC's zone, Darren Craven stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Pedro Mansfield came out of the goal and Darren Craven tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 70th minute the ball was on its way in behind Maine Road FC's goalkeeper Pedro Mansfield, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 74th minute Alastair West shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pedro Mansfield saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 76 minutes into the match, Maine Road FC's goal looked a bit too open when Darren Craven came free, but Pedro Mansfield reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Alastair West had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alastair West in the 89th minute of play forced Maine Road FC's goalkeeper Pedro Mansfield to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alastair West fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pedro Mansfield having to interfere. Alastair West received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 93rd minute. Pedro Mansfield tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Alastair West struck a weak shot in the 96th minute. Pedro Mansfield didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Crowthorne.
