Stockport Rockers's Pete Courtney played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Max Scriven in the 26th minute of play. 31 minutes into the match, Lee Appleton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Cody Theobold. Wigan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Lee Appleton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. 34 minutes into the match, Wigan's goal looked a bit too open when Archie Blueman came free, but Cody Theobold reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Max Scriven fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Pete Courtney having to interfere. If James Willmott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 38th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 41 minutes, Max Scriven made it 1-1 with a short kick to the right side. Stockport Rockers's Pete Courtney tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. Archie Blueman's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Cody Theobold read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 45th minute of play.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Max Scriven stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute Archie Blueman shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cody Theobold saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Stockport Rockers's Lee Appleton got a free kick in the 57th minute. Wigan's Max Scriven was standing unmarked in front of the goal when he, in the 62nd play minute, got the ball and easily drilled it into the goal. The audience was convinced that Max Scriven's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Pete Courtney was relentless in the 70th minute of the game. Max Scriven struck a weak shot in the 72nd minute. Pete Courtney didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Wigan. Graeme Reed kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. Stockport Rockers's Pete Courtney proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Stockport Rockers from getting a goal against them. Max Scriven received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Pete Courtney tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the final whistle sounded Wigan left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Stockport Rockers.
