The supporters of Leek booed when Wanlip City was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rueben Farrell didn't get a good kick on the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Cliff Hehir in the 20th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Iain Steed saved Wanlip City from getting behind. 26 minutes into the match, Wanlip City's goal looked a bit too open when Cliff Hehir came free, but Iain Steed reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpected shot in the 27th minute by Chris Auckland got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Billie Burns during the 30th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Clive Nancy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 46th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Phil Braithwaite having to interfere. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Cliff Hehir to make the kick off. Iain Steed made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cliff Hehir in the 59th minute of play. Iain Steed didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Cliff Hehir went, in the 64th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Jon Norton blasted a shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Phil Braithwaite having to make a save. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Cliff Hehir in the 77th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Iain Steed prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Rueben Farrell sent away a hard shot on goal in the 79th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. With a little luck, Leek's Phil Braithwaite got control of the ball when Jon Norton tried to sneak it across the goal line. The audience was convinced that Clive Nancy's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Phil Braithwaite was relentless in the 90th minute of the game. Phil Braithwaite made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Travis Constantine in the 92nd minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 94th minute, Jon Norton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Wanlip City's supporters rose to their feet, but Jon Norton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Phil Braithwaite breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Leek fans cheered their team off the field, for while Wanlip City had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
