After some fancy dribbling in the 12th minute, Vinnie Lewington managed to get in a good position for a shot. No Name Boys's supporters rose to their feet, but Vinnie Lewington was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Matty Gulliver breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When Alf Barton came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Haydock AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alf Barton couldn't finish the play. In the 20th minute of the match Marc Burns shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marek Froggatt showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 22nd minute the ball was on its way in behind No Name Boys's goalkeeper Marek Froggatt, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Matty Gulliver took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rufus Crowther, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
