In the 2nd minute, Kirk Barker hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rupert Howarth's late challenge caught a Formby AFC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. One of Newton Aycliffe United:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Formby AFC:s goal. After 7 minutes Newton Aycliffe United's goalkeeper George Davies managed, with a little bit of luck, save Darryl Hird's penalty, on his right side after a tricky shot. In the 7th minute, Darryl Hird ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. George Davies was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. In the 12th match minute, Newton Aycliffe United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Leon Hutchins to maneuver through the defense. In the 15th minute Rowan Brownlow shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Davies saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 17th minute the ball was on its way in behind Newton Aycliffe United's goalkeeper George Davies, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 26th match minute, Newton Aycliffe United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lee Kingston to maneuver through the defense. Rowan Brownlow recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 27th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Hugh Wilkins could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but George Davies made a huge save. When Formby AFC's Rowan Brownlow in the 43rd minute got a chance for a shot 43rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Newton Aycliffe United's goalie prevented a goal. After 43 played minutes Newton Aycliffe United got a freekick which was hit by Lee Kingston. After having played for 44 minutes, Hugh Wilkins managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formby AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hugh Wilkins was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The wind increased when Grant Lagdon made the kick off in the second half. Rowan Brownlow recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. George Davies showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tosh Rutherford in the 60th minute of the match. After having played for 61 minutes, Hugh Wilkins managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formby AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Hugh Wilkins was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 63rd minute Rowan Brownlow shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but George Davies saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rowan Brownlow couldn't finish the play. Brian Key made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Grant Lagdon in the 84th minute of play. Lloyd Jenkinson kicked well hit freekick during the 86th minute of the match. Hugh Wilkins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without George Davies having to interfere. George Davies showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hugh Wilkins, who was totally free with the ball in the 98th minute. Formby AFC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Newton Aycliffe United for a fine match.
