Frazer Shaw ran back to his position shaking his head. When Adrian Revell came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Reading FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Adrian Revell couldn't finish the play. Reading FC's Ash Lawless played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Louis Fleetham in the 13th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Joseph Clare during the 14th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 15 minutes into the match, FK Steaua Bucharest's Jack Beadle broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. In the 18th minute Frazer Shaw shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tommy Fitzsymon saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Danny Wildman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Tommy Fitzsymon having to interfere. Danny Wildman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Frazer Shaws short, quick shot in the 39thth minute got Tommy Fitzsymon to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Adrian Revell struck a weak shot in the 41st minute. Tommy Fitzsymon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Reading FC. A hard shot 44 in the game by Frazer Shaw from a close distance when the talented Tommy Fitzsymon managed to make a qualified save. FK Steaua Bucharest's players were relieved. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

After some fancy dribbling in the 52nd minute, Bradley Rice managed to get in a good position for a shot. Reading FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Bradley Rice was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Tommy Fitzsymon breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tommy Fitzsymon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. In the 76th match minute, FK Steaua Bucharest was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Liam Winstanley to maneuver through the defense. Adrian Revell recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 80th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Adrian Revell had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in FK Steaua Bucharest's zone, Danny Wildman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tommy Fitzsymon came out of the goal and Danny Wildman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 86th minute, Danny Wildman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Danny Wildman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Tommy Fitzsymon tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
