One of Cambridge XXX:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Illusion XI:s goal. In the 18th minute there was a penalty for Illusion XI. Ashley Greenwood stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ross Perkins. 0-1. After a rather tough play, Cambridge XXX's Stan Booth got a free kick in the 22nd minute. In the 24th minute, Junior Duckworth ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Ross Perkins was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. 30 minutes into the match, Cambridge XXX's goal looked a bit too open when Junior Duckworth came free, but Ross Perkins reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Illusion XI's zone, Chris Sheridan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Joe Fleetwood came out of the goal and Chris Sheridan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 36th match minute, Cambridge XXX was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jim Munday to maneuver through the defense. Ross Perkins made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Seth Attwood in the 37th minute of play. Stan Booth hit a great freekick 37 minutes into the match. Chris Sheridan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Joe Fleetwood having to interfere. Ross Perkins showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Seth Attwood in the 48th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Chris Sheridan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Dave Howden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benji Searle hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Louis Booth managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cambridge XXX's supporters rose to their feet, but Louis Booth was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Joe Fleetwood breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Chris Sheridan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Joe Fleetwood read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 59th minute of play. After having played for 66 minutes, Junior Duckworth managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Illusion XI's supporters crossed their fingers, but Junior Duckworth was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Seth Attwood fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 68th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ross Perkins having to interfere. After 71 minutes, Stan Booth mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cambridge XXX and the Illusion XI players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 71st minute, Stan Booth hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Cambridge XXX's Ross Perkins got control of the ball when Junior Duckworth tried to sneak it across the goal line. Louis Booth received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 73rd minute. Cambridge XXX's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Illusion XI the free kick. The supporters of Illusion XI booed when Cambridge XXX was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jim Munday didn't get a good kick on the ball. Seth Attwood sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Junior Duckworth had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Illusion XI played a much better game than Cambridge XXX and deserved their victory. The Cambridge XXX players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
