Rodney Greenfield recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 17th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in The Meldreth United's zone, Laurence Moxon stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Duncan Aldridge came out of the goal and Laurence Moxon tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 23 minutes, Rodney Greenfield managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Hornchurch's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rodney Greenfield was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Laurence Moxon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Duncan Aldridge stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rodney Greenfield's shot from short distance in the 26th minute. Louie Butterfield came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by The Meldreth United's Joe Hampton. But to his dismay, Joe Hampton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. If Laurence Moxon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 33rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 35 minutes into the match, Rodney Greenfield notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of The Meldreth United's Duncan Aldridge. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Laurence Moxon stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Rodney Greenfields short, quick shot in the 54thth minute got Duncan Aldridge to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. After 58 played minutes The Meldreth United got a freekick which was hit by Greg Worth. In the 58th minute, Laurence Moxon fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In the 68th minute, The Meldreth United's goalie took a deep sigh of relief after Laurence Moxon fired away a hard shot that went just outside the left post. Duncan Aldridge took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Laurence Moxon, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A hard shot 72 in the game by Rodney Greenfield from a close distance when the talented Duncan Aldridge managed to make a qualified save. The Meldreth United's players were relieved. In the 73rd minute, Mick Younger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Joe Hampton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 78th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Damon Bass charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Damon Bass the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play.
