Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. John-Paul Hepburn started the match with the kick off. Millwall's Vern Sandell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jools Tindale in the 8th minute of play. In the 13th minute, Millwall's Danny Sheene ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Vic Lawton. Vic Lawton yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0. The supporters of Millwall booed when Reading F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Loyd Bond didn't get a good kick on the ball. Louie Hough made a great header on Millwall's corner, it was just that Reading F.C's Vic Lawton managed to reach the ball for a save. If Norman Zamora had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Through an outstanding action, after 30 minutes, Vic Lawton successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Danny Sheene recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Norman Zamora received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 34th minute. Vic Lawton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dean Fleetham sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Norman Zamora scored 3-0 in the 42nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vic Lawton, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. 46 minutes into the match, Reading F.C's goalkeeper Vic Lawton had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Norman Zamora. In the 48th minute, Jools Tindale got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 3-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Danny Sheene made a kick off. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jools Tindale got free with Vern Sandell in the 52nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 59 minutes into the game, Gus Stone was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Reading F.C's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Millwall the free kick. Gus Stone hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. If John-Paul Hepburn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Danny Sheene blasted a shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Vic Lawton having to make a save. In the 66th minute of the match Terry Nethercot shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vic Lawton showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Vic Lawton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Danny Sheene, who was totally free with the ball in the 68th minute. Danny Sheene received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 72nd minute. Vic Lawton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luke Oliver hit a great freekick 76 minutes into the match. In the game's 76th minute Millwall's Louie Hough took a hard shot from long distance, a kick which went into the net just to the right of Vic Lawton and thus the score was 4-0. If Norman Zamora had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 84 minutes of play Reading F.C's Luke Oliver was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. Vic Lawton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Danny Sheene in the 86th minute of the match. Vic Lawton took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Danny Sheene, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 91 minutes into the match, Reading F.C's goal looked a bit too open when Dean Fleetham came free, but Vic Lawton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Norman Zamora in the 93rd minute of play forced Reading F.C's goalkeeper Vic Lawton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Danny Sheene sent away a hard shot on goal in the 94th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Danny Sheene's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Vic Lawton was relentless in the 96th minute of the game.
