When Ash Winstanley came up free with the goalie in the 26th minute, the Hoddesdon AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Ash Winstanley couldn't finish the play. 27 minutes into the match, Berwick Rangers's goal looked a bit too open when Derek Dryden came free, but Charles Coulson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Hoddesdon AFC booed when Berwick Rangers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Graham Whittington didn't get a good kick on the ball. Charles Coulson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carl Lane in the 37th minute of the match. 38 minutes into the game, Ash Winstanley cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-1. Charles Coulson was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. A collision led to Hoddesdon AFC getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Tony Hargreaves hit a great ball. Vinnie Kempson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Zackary Preston having to interfere. The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Vinnie Kempson to strike the kick off in the second half.
