Danny Sheene fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Charles Coulson having to interfere. After 33 played minutes, Millwall's Alf Rashleigh shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Charles Coulson came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Millwall reached it. In the 34th minute Norman Zamora shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charles Coulson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Bobby Mortimer recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Danny Sheene to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Millwall's Danny Sheene ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Charles Coulson. Charles Coulson yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-1. Charles Coulson made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Norman Zamora sent off a good shot on target. Norman Zamora could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Charles Coulson made a huge save. Charles Coulson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Danny Sheene's shot from short distance in the 63rd minute. After some careless play in the Berwick Rangers defense, Norman Zamora kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Charles Coulson. The Berwick Rangers fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Charles Coulson should have stopped the shot. Berwick Rangers's Charles Coulson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Danny Sheene in the 71st minute of play. In the 73rd minute Danny Sheene shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Charles Coulson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Berwick Rangers's Bobby Mortimer got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Dean Fleetham charged in rather forcefully in the 80th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Dean Fleetham the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After some fancy dribbling in the 84th minute, Norman Zamora managed to get in a good position for a shot. Millwall's supporters rose to their feet, but Norman Zamora was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Charles Coulson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Danny Sheene received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 86th minute.
