After 4 minutes, Jason Hackney mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Watford and the Superswale players grew even worse after the yellow card. The supporters of Superswale booed when Watford was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 4 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jason Hackney didn't get a good kick on the ball. Louis Waple showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tony Henry in the 20th minute of the match. Stew Beckwith received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 23rd minute. Louis Waple tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Superswale's zone, Jude Tinker stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lee Layfield came out of the goal and Jude Tinker tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Louis Waple took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tony Henry, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jude Tinker fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Lee Layfield having to interfere. Verne Lowe hit a great freekick 38 minutes into the match. Stevie Harris sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Jude Tinker sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

If Stew Beckwith had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 65th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Watford's goalkeeper Louis Waple, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jude Tinker got free with Lee Layfield in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In a very dangerous position, a player in Superswale fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 79th minute. Penalty! Alfred Smikle walked up to take care of the penalty kick. He was aiming for the top corner, but the ball went just outside the post. 82 minutes into the game, Watford's Jude Tinker nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Lee Layfield made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Sidney Henry recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 86th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Stew Beckwith fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 87th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Louis Waple having to interfere. 95 minutes into the match, Superswale's goalkeeper Lee Layfield had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Jude Tinker. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Stevie Harris in the 97th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lee Layfield saved Superswale from getting behind. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Watford had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
