An unexpectedly hard shot by Denis Fawcett in the 12th minute of play forced Crystal Palace's goalkeeper Rob Beavan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Denis Fawcett sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the Crystal Palace defense, Denis Fawcett kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rob Beavan. The Crystal Palace fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rob Beavan should have stopped the shot. Rob Beavan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Francis Mabbutt, who was totally free with the ball in the 47th minute. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-2 lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Denis Fawcett made a kick off. After 52 played minutes Crystal Palace got a freekick which was hit by Sebastien Swain. Rob Beavan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Denis Fawcett in the 56th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Denis Fawcett in the 59th minute of play forced Crystal Palace's goalkeeper Rob Beavan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rob Beavan didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 91st minute, which inside left pole to 0-6. With his leg Rob Beavan managed to avoid a goal in the 96thth minute, when Fletching AFC's Francis Mabbutt fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. When the match was over Fletching AFC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Crystal Palace throughout the match.
