Jeff Lewington could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Carlton Burkinshaw made a huge save. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 25th minute of the game. One of Chuffing Hell:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Herne Hill:s goal. Carlton Burkinshaw showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alistair Burns, who was totally free with the ball in the 30th minute. Joe Ainsworth kicked well hit freekick during the 32nd minute of the match. Tim Clarke recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 35th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Junior Gettins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 42nd minute Alistair Burns shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carlton Burkinshaw saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Chuffing Hell's Joe Ainsworth got a free kick in the 44th minute. Barrie Newlyn missed a clear chance of a goal when in the 45 minute of the game fired away a shot, but unfortunally the ball went out to the Carlton Burkinshaw right hand side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alistair Burns in the 47th minute of play forced Chuffing Hell's goalkeeper Carlton Burkinshaw to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.

If Tim Clarke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 53rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 60th minute Vic Beckford suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. 60 minutes into the game, Junior Gettins was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Chuffing Hell's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Herne Hill the free kick. Junior Gettins kicked well hit freekick during the 75th minute of the match. A collision led to Chuffing Hell getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. Junior Gettins hit a great ball. After some careless play in the Chuffing Hell defense, Tim Clarke kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Carlton Burkinshaw. The Chuffing Hell fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Carlton Burkinshaw should have stopped the shot. Tim Clarke received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 81st minute. Carlton Burkinshaw tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kieran Thackray hit a great freekick 83 minutes into the match. Kieran Thackray's late challenge caught a Herne Hill's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Kieran Thackray helped the player get up and apologised. In the 85th minute, Kieran Thackray hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Alistair Burns fell near the penalty area in the 86th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Herne Hill's protests and gave Alistair Burns a yellow card for diving instead. In the 86th match minute, Herne Hill was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alistair Burns to maneuver through the defense. If Tim Clarke had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Chuffing Hell's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
