After 10th play minutes Colin Nethercoat shot 0-1, a short shot which went by John-Paul Gunn and just under the crossbar into goal. After a defensive mix-up in Tottenham Hotspurs's zone, Colin Nethercoat stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. John-Paul Gunn came out of the goal and Colin Nethercoat tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Robin Palmer charged in rather forcefully in the 18th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Robin Palmer the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 18 played minutes Cove got a freekick which was hit by Robin Palmer. When Liam Tully came up free with the goalie in the 23rd minute, the Tottenham Hotspurs fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Liam Tully couldn't finish the play. If Larry Bentley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. John-Paul Gunn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Robin Palmer in the 27th minute of play. In the 31st minute Larry Bentley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John-Paul Gunn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Larry Bentley's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but John-Paul Gunn read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 38th minute of play. John-Paul Gunn showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Larry Bentley in the 41st minute of the match. A collision led to Cove getting a freekick after 46 minutes play. Philip Pinder hit a great ball. The Tottenham Hotspurs players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Cove were winning 0-1.

Bruce Starr sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 61 minutes into the match, Cove's goal looked a bit too open when Bruce Starr came free, but Peter Griffin reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 66th minute Robin Bator shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Peter Griffin saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Liam Tully fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tottenham Hotspurs's protests and gave Liam Tully a yellow card for diving instead. After 88 played minutes Tottenham Hotspurs got a freekick which was hit by Liam Tully. The audience thought a goal was coming when Colin Nethercoat got free with John-Paul Gunn in the 90th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. When the match had gone on for 92 minutes, Robin Palmer took a quick shot and it went in 1-2 without a chance for John-Paul Gunn to make any attempt to save it. Cove's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
