Verne Attwood might have been able to make a better finish in the 9th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Dom Saunders. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Verne Attwood ran back to his position shaking his head. Pete Postolan sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After some careless play in the New Romney defense, Franz Rouse kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pat Mitchell. The New Romney fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pat Mitchell should have stopped the shot. After having played for 18 minutes, Verne Attwood managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. New Romney's supporters crossed their fingers, but Verne Attwood was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When Nigel Swain came up free with the goalie in the 20th minute, the New Romney fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nigel Swain couldn't finish the play. 21 minutes into the match, New Romney's goal looked a bit too open when Phillip Law came free, but Pat Mitchell reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. North Stars's Franz Rouse got a good chance for a goal in the 24th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 26th minute, Graham Short left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The North Stars fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. In the 30th minute Franz Rouse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Pat Mitchell saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. New Romney's Pat Mitchell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Graham Short in the 34th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Verne Attwood managed to get in a good position for a shot. New Romney's supporters rose to their feet, but Verne Attwood was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Dom Saunders breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nigel Swain got free with Dom Saunders in the 37th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. With 39 minutes on the clock, Rhys Castledine commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. In the 39th match minute, New Romney was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rhys Castledine to maneuver through the defense. In the 41st minute the ball was on its way in behind New Romney's goalkeeper Pat Mitchell, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Nigel Swain came up free with the goalie in the 42nd minute, the New Romney fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nigel Swain couldn't finish the play. Pat Mitchell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Graham Short in the 44th minute of the match. In the 46th minute, Verne Attwood got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alistair Hellen received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Dom Saunders tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The New Romney players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. North Stars were winning 0-2.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Graham Short stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pat Mitchell was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Franz Rouse showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-3 in the 53 minute of play. With a little luck, New Romney's Pat Mitchell got control of the ball when Tom Mumford tried to sneak it across the goal line. If Pete Postolan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to North Stars getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Phillip Law hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Graham Short in the 65th minute of play forced New Romney's goalkeeper Pat Mitchell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Verne Attwood fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dom Saunders having to interfere. 71 minutes into the match, Tom Mumford had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Pat Mitchell. New Romney's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tom Mumford was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. 76 minutes had been played when some careless play by North Stars's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Verne Attwood was slow to take the kick. During this time New Romney's players had a chance to rest. Verne Attwood made a great header on New Romney's corner, it was just that North Stars's Dom Saunders managed to reach the ball for a save. Dom Saunders took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alistair Hellen, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Nigel Swain during the 87th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After 87 played minutes New Romney got a freekick which was hit by Nigel Swain. If Alistair Hellen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Verne Attwood in the 98th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Dom Saunders prevented the ball from getting in the gole. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. North Stars had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
