A very good chance. 21 minutes into the game, Vern Sands was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Lingdale Road FC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Knottingley the free kick. Vern Sands hit a great freekick 21 minutes into the match. Don Lynam fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Roger Cousens having to interfere. Jimmy Holstead hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Don Lynam recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 38th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Vern Sands could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 40th minute of the match, but Roger Cousens made a huge save. Lenny Deighton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With his leg Roger Cousens managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Lingdale Road FC's Vern Sands fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Vern Sands blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Roger Cousens having to make a save.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lenny Deighton stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Jimmy Holstead hit a great freekick 52 minutes into the match. Roger Cousens didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Max Edwards went, in the 55th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. Frank Slade hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. After 66 played minutes, Lingdale Road FC's Jonathan Earnshaw shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Roger Cousens came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Lingdale Road FC reached it. Roger Cousens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Vern Sands in the 67th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lenny Deighton in the 69th minute of play forced Lingdale Road FC's goalkeeper Ryan Morrison to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 72nd minute, Chaz Beswetherick managed to get in a good position for a shot. Knottingley's supporters rose to their feet, but Chaz Beswetherick was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ryan Morrison breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 74th minute the ball was on its way in behind Knottingley's goalkeeper Roger Cousens, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 81 played minutes Knottingley got a freekick which was hit by Frank Slade. After some fancy dribbling in the 85th minute, Vern Sands managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lingdale Road FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Vern Sands was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Roger Cousens breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Chaz Beswetherick had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 93 played minutes Lingdale Road FC got a freekick which was hit by Don Lynam. Lingdale Road FC's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
