In the 17th match minute, Bourne was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Frankie Stockley to maneuver through the defense. In the 18th minute of the match Junior Preston shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Graham Lofthouse showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. The supporters of Chelski FC booed when Bourne was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 20 match minutes in a wonderful position. Byron Kellaway didn't get a good kick on the ball. But to his dismay, Lennie Charlton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-2. Bourne's Graham Lofthouse played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Lennie Charlton in the 46th minute of play. The Bourne players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Chelski FC were winning 0-2.
After a defensive mix-up in Bourne's zone, Benjamin Barnfield stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Graham Lofthouse came out of the goal and Benjamin Barnfield tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 56th minute, Ricky Macken ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Duncan McNiven was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-2. After 62 played minutes Chelski FC got a freekick which was hit by Will Adamson. In the 67th minute, Lennie Charlton got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 68 minutes into the match, Bourne's goalkeeper Graham Lofthouse had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benjamin Barnfield. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benjamin Barnfield couldn't finish the play. Ricky Macken fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Duncan McNiven having to interfere.
