Neil Blackley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Hugh Beerman, who was totally free with the ball in the 10th minute. After some careless play in the Cheddar defense, Hugh Beerman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Neil Blackley. The Cheddar fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Neil Blackley should have stopped the shot. Crispin Simms could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Lance Hoult made a huge save. Hemel Hempstead City's Hugh Beerman got a good chance for a goal in the 33rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Hugh Beerman in the 35th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Neil Blackley saved Cheddar from getting behind. After some careless play in the Cheddar defense, Hugh Beerman kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Neil Blackley. The Cheddar fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Neil Blackley should have stopped the shot. When Alfred Wright was, once again, overly rough in his play he received his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. 40 minutes had been played. A collision led to Hemel Hempstead City getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Alfred Wright hit a great ball. Vince Ward received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Neil Blackley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

In the 63rd minute Vince Ward shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Neil Blackley saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Brendon Dunning fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Neil Blackley having to interfere.
