After 7 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Congleton! Verne Ryder blasted a shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ivan Ellerby having to make a save. Congleton's Denis Rothwell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ash Attwood in the 15th minute of play. In the 18th minute, Verne Ryder left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Congleton fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-1. Ivan Ellerby stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Bradley Welch's shot from short distance in the 22nd minute. Bradley Welch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 35 minutes of play, Vega Fc's Iain Robson made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Denis Rothwell was left in no man's land by his defense there! Bradley Welch fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 39th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ivan Ellerby having to interfere. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ash Attwood was the one to do the kick off. After a rather tough play, Vega Fc's Nicky Buckler got a free kick in the 68th minute. A collision led to Congleton getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Damien Farrell hit a great ball.
