Spectators: 7500 (Terracing: 5647, Seating: 1731, VIP seats: 122) It was fairly windy and cold on the field when Damian Snowden kicked off to start the match. Donald Clifton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Rothwell having to interfere. Denis Rothwell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Donald Clifton in the 5th minute of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Damien Farrell during the 6th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Congleton getting a freekick after 6 minutes play. Damien Farrell hit a great ball. In the 9th minute of the match Lindfield got a corner. Congleton's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Trevor McDonald ran over to the corner to take the kick. Trevor McDonald made a great header on Lindfield's corner, it was just that Congleton's Denis Rothwell managed to reach the ball for a save. After a rather tough play, Lindfield's Trevor McDonald got a free kick in the 10th minute. Donald Clifton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 15th minute, Billie Blakewell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bradley Welch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 19th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Denis Rothwell came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by Lindfield's Damian Snowden. But to his dismay, Damian Snowden quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donald Clifton in the 31st minute of play forced Congleton's goalkeeper Denis Rothwell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If Donald Clifton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 36 minutes into the game, Damian Snowden cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Denis Rothwell was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. If Damian Snowden had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Donald Clifton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 42nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Donald Clifton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 51st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The Congleton players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Lindfield were winning 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Verne Ryder to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 59th minute, Donald Clifton left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Lindfield fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-3. In the 67th minute of the match Tosh Blackley sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Denis Rothwell skillfully saved the ball. 69 minutes into the match, Congleton's goalkeeper Denis Rothwell had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Donald Clifton. In the 72nd minute, Damian Snowden fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Denis Rothwell, passed just outside the right post. Denis Rothwell made an important save on a dangerous shot by Donald Clifton in the 75th minute. 82 minutes into the game, George Cummins lined in a short shot 0-5 behind a frustrated Denis Rothwell. In the 87th minute, Damian Snowden reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Denis Rothwell. The goal made the score 0-6. Denis Rothwell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Damian Snowden in the 95th minute of the match. Donald Clifton came free with the goalkeeper in the 97th minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Denis Rothwell could save by the left post. In the 99th minute Lindfield were awarded a corner. Trevor McDonald went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Lindfield's corner Trevor McDonald fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Denis Rothwell quite easily take care of the ball. If Donald Clifton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 100th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When the final whistle sounded Lindfield left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Congleton.
