Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Verne Ryder made the kick off and thus started the match. Denis Rothwell made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laurence Chiverton in the 3rd minute of play. In the 4th minute, Laurence Chiverton fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. 12 minutes into the match, Gillingham's Rupert Dunne sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Denis Rothwell narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Gillingham's Laurence Chiverton got a good chance for a goal in the 13th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Denis Rothwell stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Laurence Chiverton's shot from short distance in the 15th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Congleton's zone, Laurence Chiverton stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Denis Rothwell came out of the goal and Laurence Chiverton tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Laurence Chiverton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Denis Rothwell having to interfere. Silvester Robson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Verne Ryder in the 29th minute of play. Rupert Dunne received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. Denis Rothwell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Laurence Chiverton in the 41st minute of play forced Congleton's goalkeeper Denis Rothwell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bradley Welch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 45th minute. Silvester Robson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gillingham's Silvester Robson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Verne Ryder in the 49th minute of play. The referee ignored Congleton's protests and gave Verne Ryder a yellow card for diving instead. Verne Ryder kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. In the 53rd minute, Rupert Dunne got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rupert Dunne in the 59th minute of play forced Congleton's goalkeeper Denis Rothwell to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Bradley Welch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Silvester Robson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 66 minutes into the match, Verne Ryder dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Silvester Robson, 0-1. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Laurence Chiverton couldn't finish the play. Congleton's Bradley Welch got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Congleton's Denis Rothwell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Laurence Chiverton in the 95th minute of play.
