Spectators: 6723 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1723, VIP seats: 0) The mood of the audience was pleasant when Lee Seagrave made the kick off which started today's match. John-Paul Wardle kicked well hit freekick during the 2nd minute of the match. Lee Seagrave fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 3rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jamie Rhodes having to interfere. Jamie Rhodes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Reg Rocastle in the 5th minute of play. In the 10th minute Lee Seagrave shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jamie Rhodes saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 12 minutes into the match, Huyton FC's goal looked a bit too open when Lee Seagrave came free, but Jamie Rhodes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Niall Marenghi showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John-Paul Wardle in the 14th minute of the match. Donald Hutchinson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Niall Marenghi having to interfere. Damian Sawyer got in the 18th a clear chance and fired away a hard shot against goal, but Niall Marenghi handled the situation perfectly and made a save by the crossbar. Lee Seagrave struck a weak shot in the 20th minute. Jamie Rhodes didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Formby. After 23 minutes, Lee Seagrave made it 0-1 with a short kick to the right side. Huyton FC's Jamie Rhodes tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 25th minute, Damian Sawyer reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Niall Marenghi. The goal made the score 1-1. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by John-Paul Wardle during the 29th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 30th match minute, Huyton FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by John-Paul Wardle to maneuver through the defense. Huyton FC's Rory Lane couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 35th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Formby. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donald Hutchinson in the 37th minute of play forced Formby's goalkeeper Niall Marenghi to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Reg Rocastle scored 1-2 in the 44th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jamie Rhodes, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot.

After having played for 52 minutes, Tristan Malpeli managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formby's supporters crossed their fingers, but Tristan Malpeli was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 55th minute Donald Hutchinson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Niall Marenghi saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jamie Rhodes acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 57th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Keiran Daly. Reg Rocastle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jamie Rhodes having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Huyton FC's Patrick Brooks got a free kick in the 63rd minute. If Reg Rocastle had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Huyton FC getting a freekick after 77 minutes play. John-Paul Wardle hit a great ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 78th minute, Lee Seagrave managed to get in a good position for a shot. Formby's supporters rose to their feet, but Lee Seagrave was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Jamie Rhodes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Huyton FC's zone, Lee Seagrave stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jamie Rhodes came out of the goal and Lee Seagrave tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Lee Seagrave had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 92nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Formby played a much better game than Huyton FC and deserved their victory. The Huyton FC players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
