Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Peter Potterton started the match with the kick off. Peter Potterton's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wesley Westerby read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 6th minute of play. Stuart Chivers hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Peter Potterton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Oldham City's supporters rose to their feet, but Peter Potterton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wesley Westerby breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Peter Potterton in the 11th minute of play forced FC BankSHOle's goalkeeper Wesley Westerby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to FC BankSHOle getting a freekick after 18 minutes play. William Oliver hit a great ball. Peter Potterton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wesley Westerby having to interfere. FC BankSHOle's Wesley Westerby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Potterton in the 27th minute of play. After having played for 30 minutes, Peter Potterton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Oldham City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Peter Potterton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Wesley Westerby showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rhys Sutherland, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. If Peter Potterton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Rhys Sutherland's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wesley Westerby read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 34th minute of play. 35 minutes into the match, Freddy Crocker had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wesley Westerby. FC BankSHOle's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Freddy Crocker was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Wesley Westerby showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rhys Sutherland, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Peter Potterton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. Wesley Westerby tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 42 minutes into the match, Rhys Sutherland had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Wesley Westerby. FC BankSHOle's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Rhys Sutherland was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. If Peter Potterton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The FC BankSHOle players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Oldham City were winning 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Johnny Osbourn was the one to do the kick off. Rhys Sutherland struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. Wesley Westerby didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Oldham City. Wesley Westerby was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Peter Potterton showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-4 in the 84 minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Peter Potterton in the 95th minute of play forced FC BankSHOle's goalkeeper Wesley Westerby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Wesley Westerby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Peter Potterton, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Oldham City played a much better game than FC BankSHOle and deserved their victory. The FC BankSHOle players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
