Marcus Sheene made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kev Edmonton in the 23rd minute of play. Russ Townsons short, quick shot in the 28thth minute got Marcus Sheene to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Marcus Sheene showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Howard Rogers in the 29th minute of the match. Russ Townson had several of the Woodley United's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 30 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 3-0 score and a disappointed Marcus Sheene as he didn't even see the shot coming. Russ Townson's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 35thth minute, Marcus Sheene skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Thorpe-le-Soken were awarded a corner in the 36th minute after Woodley United's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Howard Rogers took the corner. In the 38th match minute, Woodley United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rodney Downton to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Woodley United getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Eddie Fisher hit a great ball. Howard Rogers scored 4-0 in the 44th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Marcus Sheene, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Liam Wright made a kick off. In the 53rd minute, Russ Townson ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcus Sheene was frozen by the shot and now it was 5-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Howard Rogers in the 56th minute of play forced Woodley United's goalkeeper Marcus Sheene to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Woodley United's Liam Wright got a free kick in the 89th minute. There was no doubt that Thorpe-le-Soken were the better team. Thorpe-le-Soken's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
