Brendon Atherton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 4th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Salford City's Sean Corrigan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 5th minute of the match, managed to save Salford City from getting a goal against them. In the 6th minute, Philip Zamora ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Sean Corrigan was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-0. Brendon Atherton struck a weak shot in the 10th minute. Mark Haseldine didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Salford City. Mark Haseldine made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brendon Atherton in the 12th minute of play. 13 minutes in the game, Adam Calder dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. Junior Bancroft recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 14th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Junior Bancroft sent away a hard shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 23rd minute, Allan Harris hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Benji Marchant blasted a shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Mark Haseldine having to make a save. In the 28th minute Benji Marchant shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mark Haseldine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Benji Marchant fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mark Haseldine having to interfere. Jon Hislop hit a great freekick 32 minutes into the match. After taking down the ball on Salford City's corner Sol Rowling fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Mark Haseldine quite easily take care of the ball. Mark Haseldine didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Brendon Atherton went, in the 38th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. Jon Hislop scored 2-2 in the 43rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sean Corrigan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jon Hislop got free with Sean Corrigan in the 46th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Oscar Fish scored 3-2 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Sean Corrigan, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 3-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Adam Calder was the one to do the kick off. Brendon Atherton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 54th minute. Mark Haseldine tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Salford City's Junior Bancroft got a good chance for a goal in the 55th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 67th minute, Junior Bancroft fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Mark Haseldine, passed just outside the right post. In the 69th minute Adam Calder shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mark Haseldine saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Brendon Atherton did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 3-3 to the left of a surprised Mark Haseldine 70 minutes into the match. After having played for 75 minutes, Oscar Fish managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Intersports fc's supporters crossed their fingers, but Oscar Fish was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Salford City's Brendon Atherton got a good chance for a goal in the 80th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Mark Haseldine took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Adam Calder, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jon Hislop sent away a hard shot on goal in the 88th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance.
