The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the last second Darius Strongman throw himself and got hold of the ball when Alf Akins in the 6thth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. Don Wendon hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. When Skelmersdale City's Matt Turner in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Greenwich's goalie prevented a goal. If Alf Akins had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Alf Akins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darius Strongman having to interfere. Jo Knightley charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jo Knightley the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 31st minute, Jo Knightley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Greenwich's Grant Davies got a good chance for a goal in the 32nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Alf Akins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Darius Strongman didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Grant Davies went, in the 39th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-0 was the resulting score. The corner ended in Rod Cardwell almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Skelmersdale City's Darius Strongman did a great save. Teddy Bowden's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Johnathan Pritchard read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 47th minute of play. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Alf Akins made the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute, Grant Davies ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Darius Strongman was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. After some fancy dribbling in the 62nd minute, Matt Turner managed to get in a good position for a shot. Skelmersdale City's supporters rose to their feet, but Matt Turner was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Johnathan Pritchard breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Darius Strongman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alf Akins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 66 minutes, Grant Davies managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Greenwich's supporters crossed their fingers, but Grant Davies was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 69th minute, Jo Knightley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 70th minute, Grant Davies got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When Greenwich's Alf Akins in the 77th minute got a chance for a shot 77th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Skelmersdale City's goalie prevented a goal. When Grant Davies came up free with the goalie in the 81st minute, the Greenwich fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Grant Davies couldn't finish the play. Alf Akins fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 82nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Darius Strongman having to interfere. Greenwich's Johnathan Pritchard proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 89th minute of the match, managed to save Greenwich from getting a goal against them. Darius Strongman took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alf Akins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Skelmersdale City getting a freekick after 94 minutes play. Howard Rain hit a great ball.
