Dean Wroe stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Des Crosby's shot from short distance in the 11th minute. A collision led to Honiton getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Lloyd Hewitt got free with Dean Wroe in the 30th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In a very dangerous position, a player in Darlington City fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 32nd minute. Penalty! In the 34th match minute, Darlington City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Seth Pickering to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 40 minutes, Des Crosby managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Honiton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Des Crosby was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Dean Wroe made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Des Crosby in the 43rd minute of play. Louie Hicks struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Gordon Challis didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Darlington City.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Harvey Lewington was the one to do the kick off. The Honiton fans cheered their team off the field, for while Darlington City had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
