The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Neil Salmon charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Neil Salmon the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 5th minute, one of Saltash:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Saltash. Tommy Jeffrey fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Challis having to interfere. Christian Gibbs fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gordon Challis having to interfere. Saltash's Tommy Jeffrey got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Lloyd Hewitt fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 21st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stan Mallon having to interfere. Christian Gibbs received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 27th minute. Gordon Challis tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Tommy Jeffrey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 35th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Benji Cooper kicked well hit freekick during the 42nd minute of the match. Saltash's Stan Mallon proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 44th minute of the match, managed to save Saltash from getting a goal against them. Lloyd Hewitt struck a weak shot in the 46th minute. Stan Mallon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Honiton. After having played for 48 minutes, Christian Gibbs managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Saltash's supporters crossed their fingers, but Christian Gibbs was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Lloyd Hewitt was the one to do the kick off. The crowd rose to their feet as Saltash's Christian Gibbs slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Gordon Challis. That made the score 3-1 after 53 minutes of play. Gordon Challis showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Christian Gibbs in the 56th minute of the match. Gordon Challis showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Christian Gibbs, who was totally free with the ball in the 57th minute. Piers Hackney hit a great freekick 58 minutes into the match. In the 64th minute, Lloyd Hewitt got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 67 minutes, Andre Thurman managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Honiton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andre Thurman was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Stan Mallon didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Honiton. 79 minutes into the game, Honiton's Lloyd Hewitt nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Stan Mallon made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-1. Gordon Challis was a little too slow when Piers Hackney got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 86th minute. The score was now 4-2. Tommy Jeffrey's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 89thth minute, Gordon Challis skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Honiton were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Saltash for a fine match.
