Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Thurlaston AFC's Kristopher Darko started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Phillip Howarth hit a great freekick 2 minutes into the match. Carl Jobling showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mike Wardill, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. In the 9th minute, Mike Wardill got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Mike Wardill struck a weak shot in the 16th minute. Carl Jobling didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Northallerton. If Mike Wardill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. If Kristopher Darko had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Thurlaston AFC booed when Northallerton was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Michael Merchant didn't get a good kick on the ball. Richard Deighton in the 30thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Carl Jobling, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. Mike Wardill received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 35th minute. Carl Jobling tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 37th minute Mike Wardill shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Carl Jobling saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Carl Jobling made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mike Wardill in the 38th minute of play. Sammy Flack showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Conan Swallow in the 41st minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Mike Wardill in the 43rd minute of play forced Thurlaston AFC's goalkeeper Carl Jobling to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 46 played minutes, Thurlaston AFC's Danny Blain shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Sammy Flack came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Thurlaston AFC reached it. If Conan Swallow had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The first half was very even, with the score at 0-0 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Mike Wardill made a kick off. Kristopher Darko received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 52nd minute. Sammy Flack tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Lenny Bannatyne managed to get in a good position for a shot. Thurlaston AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Lenny Bannatyne was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Sammy Flack breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Denny Beswetherick hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. Danny Blain shot from long distance in the 60th minute, but Sammy Flack was prepared and stopped the ball at the left post. Richard Deighton's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Carl Jobling read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 68th minute of play. Richard Deighton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Carl Jobling having to interfere. In the 73rd match minute, Thurlaston AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Simon Aspinall to maneuver through the defense. Mike Wardill blasted a shot towards the goal in the 75th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Carl Jobling having to make a save. Conan Swallow sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Kristopher Darko in the 82nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Sammy Flack saved Northallerton from getting behind. 84 minutes into the match, Kristopher Darko dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Sammy Flack, 0-1. A collision led to Northallerton getting a freekick after 89 minutes play. Mike Wardill hit a great ball. If Conan Swallow had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 91st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Thurlaston AFC's Kristopher Darko got a good chance for a goal in the 93rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
