In the 10th minute, OJ Rovers's Shane Paine seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Shane Paine the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of OJ Rovers protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Shane Paine had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. 10 minutes into the game, one of OJ Rovers:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. The referee gave Ulverston FC a penalty, 12 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Clive Teague, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of OJ Rovers's Ozzy Coulson. 0-1. The supporters of Ulverston FC booed when OJ Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 15 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robert Corby didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ozzy Coulson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lloyd Bayford in the 17th minute of play. Leo Higgins hit a great freekick 20 minutes into the match. After a rather tough play, OJ Rovers's Will Larham got a free kick in the 23rd minute. In the 28th minute, Reuben Jefferies hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ozzy Coulson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Robert Darby, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. Ozzy Coulson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kristian Fleming, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. OJ Rovers's Ozzy Coulson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristian Fleming in the 36th minute of play. In the 46th minute, Emilio Laurin fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Simon Mabbutt, passed just outside the right post. Will Larham fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 47th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Simon Mabbutt having to interfere. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Kristian Fleming to make the kick off. In the 54th minute, Ulverston FC's Clive Teague ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Ozzy Coulson. Ozzy Coulson yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. Lloyd Bayford could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Ozzy Coulson made a huge save. OJ Rovers's Ozzy Coulson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kristian Fleming in the 67th minute of play. When Ulverston FC's Kristian Fleming, in the 67th minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for Ulverston FC. If Emilio Laurin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 69th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in OJ Rovers's zone, Kristian Fleming stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ozzy Coulson came out of the goal and Kristian Fleming tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Ozzy Coulson was out of position in the 88 minute of play, and Kristian Fleming capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Kristian Fleming really showed his touch with that goal: 0-3. 94 minutes into the match, Ulverston FC's goal looked a bit too open when Emilio Laurin came free, but Simon Mabbutt reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Emilio Laurin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Simon Mabbutt tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
