The audience was convinced that Den Bassett's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Frankie Vazquez was relentless in the 8th minute of the game. Frankie Vazquez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Den Bassett, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Max Walker charged in rather forcefully in the 11th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Max Walker the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 13 played minutes HULL CITY FC got a freekick which was hit by Ian Blake. 17 minutes into the match, Newton Aycliffe AFC's Silvester Ford sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Frankie Vazquez narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 19th minute Silvester Ford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frankie Vazquez saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Frankie Vazquez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Den Bassett in the 25th minute of play. HULL CITY FC's Frankie Vazquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Silvester Ford in the 30th minute of play. In the 33rd minute, Karl Millman sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Newton Aycliffe AFC's Neil Banim didn't even have to move. 35 minutes into the match, HULL CITY FC's goal looked a bit too open when Den Bassett came free, but Frankie Vazquez reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Frankie Vazquez showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Silvester Ford in the 48th minute of the match. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Den Bassett made a kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Newton Aycliffe AFC's zone, Ivor Boyce stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Neil Banim came out of the goal and Ivor Boyce tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When Den Bassett came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the Newton Aycliffe AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Den Bassett couldn't finish the play. With his leg Frankie Vazquez managed to avoid a goal in the 78thth minute, when Newton Aycliffe AFC's Silvester Ford fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Frankie Vazquez was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 79th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Jonathon Hampshire. HULL CITY FC's Frankie Vazquez played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Den Bassett in the 82nd minute of play. Silvester Ford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Silvester Ford's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Frankie Vazquez read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 89th minute of play. Silvester Ford received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 95th minute. Frankie Vazquez tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. For all the effort they put into the match, the Newton Aycliffe AFC players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for HULL CITY FC.
