Verne Bell hit a great freekick 3 minutes into the match. When Pete Wicks came up free with the goalie in the 5th minute, the Newbiggin Hall fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Pete Wicks couldn't finish the play. Newbiggin Hall's Alistair Jones got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 20th minute Timothy Elliott shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Tosh Bartrup saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 23 played minutes Newbiggin Hall got a freekick which was hit by Ted Davison. Matty Oddy kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Alistair Jones sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Pete Wicks stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 76thth minute of the game Pete Wicks who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but South Shields's Damon Quinn was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alistair Jones in the 77th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Damon Quinn saved South Shields from getting behind. 79 minutes into the match, Newbiggin Hall's Alistair Jones sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Damon Quinn narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After having played for 80 minutes, Pete Wicks managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Newbiggin Hall's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pete Wicks was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Alistair Jones had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
