In the 5th minute Alistair Jones shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but James Kirk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Felix Bullard during the 7th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 7th match minute, Newbiggin Hall was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felix Bullard to maneuver through the defense. James Kirk didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Alistair Jones went, in the 11th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. James Kirk showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Alistair Jones, who was totally free with the ball in the 22nd minute. After 27 minutes, Alistair Jones made it 0-3 with a short kick to the right side. Gedling City's James Kirk tried to save the shot but he was too slow in reacting to the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Pete Wicks in the 36th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg James Kirk saved Gedling City from getting behind. Alistair Jones received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 38th minute. James Kirk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 42nd minute Pete Wicks shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but James Kirk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 46 minutes into the match, Gedling City's goal looked a bit too open when Alistair Jones came free, but James Kirk reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 49 minutes into the match, Will McKeown notched a goal, 0-4, to the right of Gedling City's James Kirk. James Kirk was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

The crowd rose to their feet as Newbiggin Hall's Pete Wicks slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of James Kirk. That made the score 0-5 after 56 minutes of play. A collision led to Gedling City getting a freekick after 58 minutes play. Derek Poynton hit a great ball. Pete Wicks sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. James Kirk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pete Wicks in the 63rd minute of play. James Kirk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Pete Wicks, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Derek Poynton charged in rather forcefully in the 65th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The Newbiggin Hall players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
