The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Mickey Webster during the 4th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. 3 minutes into the game, one of Gedling City:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. In the 5th minute there was a penalty for South Shields. Matthew Blake stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving James Kirk. 1-0. With splendid footwork Timothy Elliott arrived in front of goal to shoot 2-0 by the left pole in the game's 14th minute. Johnathon Alsop charged in rather forcefully in the 23rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Johnathon Alsop the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, South Shields's Johnathon Alsop got a free kick in the 23rd minute. In the 27th minute Timothy Elliott shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but James Kirk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Timothy Elliott recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Timothy Elliott received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. James Kirk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gedling City's James Kirk proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 32nd minute of the match, managed to save Gedling City from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, Gedling City's Austen Woodhead got a free kick in the 35th minute. Matty Oddy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 40th minute. James Kirk tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Timothy Elliott had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. When South Shields's Timothy Elliott in the 45th minute got a chance for a shot 45th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Gedling City's goalie prevented a goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Timothy Elliott to make the kick off. When Matty Oddy came up free with the goalie in the 51st minute, the South Shields fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Matty Oddy couldn't finish the play. After some fancy dribbling in the 57th minute, Austen Woodhead managed to get in a good position for a shot. Gedling City's supporters rose to their feet, but Austen Woodhead was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Damon Quinn breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. James Kirk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matty Oddy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 63 played minutes Gedling City got a freekick which was hit by Johnny Wootton. James Kirk made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matty Oddy in the 64th minute of play. In the 65th match minute, South Shields was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricky Dobson to maneuver through the defense. James Kirk came out of the goal in the 75th minute to try and stop a shot by South Shields's Timothy Elliott. But to his dismay, Timothy Elliott quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. Johnny Wootton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 78th minute. Damon Quinn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Matty Oddy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 81st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The audience was convinced that Timothy Elliott's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but James Kirk was relentless in the 85th minute of the game. James Kirk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Matty Oddy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Johnny Wootton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Damon Quinn tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The supporters of Gedling City booed when South Shields was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ricky Dobson didn't get a good kick on the ball. Gedling City's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
