Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Johnny Wootton started the match with the kick off. James Kirk took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Timothy Elliott, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Matty Oddy fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 9th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without James Kirk having to interfere. Matty Oddy recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 13th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 17th minute Derek Poynton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Damon Quinn saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Frank Ferdinand hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. When South Shields's Ricky Dobson in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Matty Oddy scored 0-1 in the 34th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of James Kirk, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 41st minute Timothy Elliott shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but James Kirk saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Derek Poynton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Damon Quinn having to interfere.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Timothy Elliott to make the kick off. Damon Quinn made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Derek Poynton in the 55th minute of play. In the 55th match minute, South Shields was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jeffrey Hutchins to maneuver through the defense. Gedling City's James Kirk proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Gedling City from getting a goal against them. After a defensive mix-up in Gedling City's zone, Matty Oddy stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. James Kirk came out of the goal and Matty Oddy tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 63rdth minute of the game Timothy Elliott who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Gedling City's James Kirk was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Johnny Wootton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 76th minute the ball was on its way in behind Gedling City's goalkeeper James Kirk, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 77 minutes into the game, Johnathon Alsop was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. South Shields's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Gedling City the free kick. Derek Poynton hit a great ball. 85 minutes into the match, South Shields's Matthew Blake broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide.
