Jo Marlow fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jez Selby having to interfere. Alastair Welch showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alfie Norman in the 29th minute of the match. Alastair Welch showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ivan Hay, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Ivan Hay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Alastair Welch having to interfere. After some careless play in the Grouchos Grasshoppers defense, Ivan Hay kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Alastair Welch. The Grouchos Grasshoppers fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Alastair Welch should have stopped the shot. If Jo Marlow had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 46th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jo Marlow made a kick off. A collision led to Grouchos Grasshoppers getting a freekick after 51 minutes play. Gerry Blake hit a great ball. Ivan Hay scored 0-2 in the 53rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Alastair Welch, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Alastair Welch stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlton Alsford's shot from short distance in the 57th minute. With a little luck, Grouchos Grasshoppers's Alastair Welch got control of the ball when Ivan Hay tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 65 played minutes, Prestwich FC's Teddy Pritchard shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Alastair Welch came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. In the 74th minute of the match Prestwich FC got a corner. Grouchos Grasshoppers's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Teddy Pritchard ran over to the corner to take the kick. The audience was convinced that Carlton Alsford's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Alastair Welch was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. 80 minutes into the match, Prestwich FC's goal looked a bit too open when Gordon Plant came free, but Jez Selby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Wally Wilson kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Prestwich FC's Carlton Alsford in the 85th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Alastair Welch was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Grouchos Grasshoppers through an amazing save. Alfie Norman struck a weak shot in the 89th minute. Alastair Welch didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Prestwich FC. The crowd rose to their feet as Carlton Alsford kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Alastair Welch. That made the score 0-4 in the 92 minute of play. 96 minutes into the match, Prestwich FC's goal looked a bit too open when Jo Marlow came free, but Jez Selby reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Prestwich FC eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
