When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Alfie Norman put it in 2-0 from a short distance just to the right of Jim Halford. Jez Selby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Craig Durkin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Warrington KK's zone, Carlton Alsford stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jim Halford came out of the goal and Carlton Alsford tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 2-1 became the score in the 47th minute when Don Rush elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The wind increased when Don Rush made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Warrington KK's Robert Colbert got a free kick in the 55th minute. In the 65th minute Ivan Hay shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jim Halford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Warrington KK's Jim Halford played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Carlton Alsford in the 66th minute of play. Carlton Alsford sent away a hard shot on goal in the 69th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ivan Hay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jim Halford having to interfere. The referee gave Prestwich FC a penalty, 82 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Teddy Pritchard, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Warrington KK's Jim Halford. 4-1. In the 85th minute Carlton Alsford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jim Halford saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ivan Hay received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Jim Halford tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Carlton Alsford blasted a shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jim Halford having to make a save. When Carlton Alsford came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Prestwich FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Carlton Alsford couldn't finish the play. The audience was convinced that Ivan Hay's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jim Halford was relentless in the 95th minute of the game.
