In the 22nd match minute, Grouchos Grasshoppers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Wally Wilson to maneuver through the defense. In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Grouchos Grasshoppers's goalkeeper Alastair Welch, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Prestwich FC's Rob Woolford got a good chance for a goal in the 26th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Roy Rowett took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 28th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Alastair Welch. Grouchos Grasshoppers's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Alastair Welch showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Carlton Alsford in the 33rd minute of the match. Ivan Hay made a well adjusted shot against goal in the 36thth minute coming free in front of the goal, but Alastair Welch would not let the ball come through at any expense and made a nice save by the left post. Jo Marsden charged in rather forcefully in the 37th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Jo Marsden the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Carlton Alsford took the ball and in the 43 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alastair Welch. Alastair Welch dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-0. Prestwich FC's Jez Selby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jo Marlow in the 48th minute of play.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jo Marlow made a kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 51st minute, Ivan Hay managed to get in a good position for a shot. Prestwich FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Ivan Hay was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Alastair Welch breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Ivan Hay had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 68th minute Carlton Alsford shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alastair Welch saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Prestwich FC fully deserved thier win.
