Dave Driver blasted a shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Alastair Acton having to make a save. Gregory Archer showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Bill Eubank in the 35th minute of the match. When Reuben Groves fell near the penalty area in the 35th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Tottenham's protests and gave Reuben Groves a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Tottenham getting a freekick after 37 minutes play. Blair Wootton hit a great ball. 38 minutes into the match, Thamesmead's Timothy Cutts broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Dean Basham to make the kick off.
