Kev Wiltshire sent away a hard shot on goal in the 8th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Albert Dyson during the 9th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Ash getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Albert Dyson hit a great ball. In the 11th minute, Kev Wiltshire ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Greg Brooks was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. Tim Tolley's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Stubbs read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 40th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Albert Dyson in the 72nd minute of play forced Stroud's goalkeeper Paul Stubbs to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Stroud's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Ash the free kick. Paul Stubbs had in the 88thth minute some difficulties stopping Sid Washington's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Greg Brooks made an important save on a dangerous shot by Kev Wiltshire in the 93rd minute. Stroud's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
