Jack Hay sent away a hard shot on goal in the 3rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 13 minutes into the match, Muswell Hill's goal looked a bit too open when Pete Monk came free, but Richie Johnstone reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th minute, Zak West fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Chip Byfield, passed just outside the right post. After some careless play in the Muswell Hill defense, Jack Hay kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Richie Johnstone. The Muswell Hill fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Richie Johnstone should have stopped the shot. In the 24th minute Pete Monk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Richie Johnstone saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Jack Hay fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 25th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Richie Johnstone having to interfere. 30 minutes into the game, Barrie Bower was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Muswell Hill's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Barnoldswick FC the free kick. After 30 played minutes Muswell Hill got a freekick which was hit by Barrie Bower. An unexpectedly hard shot by Jack Hay in the 31st minute of play forced Muswell Hill's goalkeeper Richie Johnstone to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 32 minutes in the game, Pete Monk dribbled his way through the penalty area and after maneuvering past an opponent, drilled a quick shot at the goal. The ball looked like it was going in, but it was hit a bit too hard and flew over the goal. In the 47th match minute, Barnoldswick FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Austin Langley to maneuver through the defense. In the 48th minute the ball was on its way in behind Barnoldswick FC's goalkeeper Chip Byfield, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Jack Hay stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Pete Monk received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 56th minute. Richie Johnstone tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pete Monk sent away a hard shot on goal in the 63rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Pete Monk's late challenge caught a Muswell Hill's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Pete Monk helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Muswell Hill booed when Barnoldswick FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 65 match minutes in a wonderful position. Pete Monk didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 70th minute, Zak West made a precise shot to the right of Chip Byfield. Barnoldswick FC's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-2. After some fancy dribbling in the 76th minute, Jack Hay managed to get in a good position for a shot. Barnoldswick FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Jack Hay was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Richie Johnstone breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 78th match minute, Muswell Hill was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Orson Bennet to maneuver through the defense. In the 81st minute, Ashley Broadhurst got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 83rd play minute Pete Monk came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Richie Johnstone. 1-3. Pete Monk's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Richie Johnstone read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 88th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Muswell Hill's Barrie Bower got a free kick in the 89th minute. In the 91st minute, Neil Short hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When Orson Bennet fell near the penalty area in the 95th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Muswell Hill's protests and gave Orson Bennet a yellow card for diving instead. Muswell Hill:s Richie Johnstone showed great skill when he stopped Austin Langley:s penalty. Barnoldswick FC played a much better game than Muswell Hill and deserved their victory. The Muswell Hill players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
