Cliff Paley was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 20th minute. Stocksbridge FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 87 minutes into the match, Waterfoot's goal looked a bit too open when Cliff Paley came free, but Verne Eubank reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Verne Eubank took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Verne Brennan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Waterfoot's Verne Eubank played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cliff Paley in the 94th minute of play. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Stocksbridge FC had played much better football throughout.
